Writer Catherine de Lange was born to an English father and a French mother. It seemed quite natural to her family to have the children speaking both languages growing up. At the time, however, some experts would have labeled it confusing and harmful to her development. That attitude has changed completely, she writes. Experts now understand the many benefits of a bilingual household. Using two languages makes children's brains more flexible and creative, among other advantages. The Washington Post (6/11)
